How we aim to make the site work for everyone, and what is not right yet. Last updated October 2026.
What we are aiming for
The site should be easy to use on a phone, with a screen reader, or with the text made bigger. We aim to meet the WCAG 2.2 AA standard. We do not claim to meet it everywhere, because it has not been independently checked.
What is built in
- The main lettering is Atkinson Hyperlegible, made by the Braille Institute to be easier to read for people with low vision.
- Every page is checked at phone, tablet and computer widths, signed in and signed out, so nothing runs off the screen.
- Every password box has a Show button, so you can check what you typed.
- The help numbers are at the bottom of every page.
- Pictures carry descriptions; decorative ones are hidden from screen readers.
What is not right yet
- We have not tested the whole site with a screen reader. Until we have, we will not claim it works well with one.
